I got a bill for $1,200 after a CT scan. Medicare was supposed to cover it.
Let's figure out what happened. A few questions: 1. Was the CT scan ordered by your doctor? 2. Was it done at a hospital outpatient facility or a freestanding imaging center? 3. Do you have the Explanation of Benefits (EOB) from Medicare? The facility type matters because hospital outpatient has a separate facility fee that imaging centers do not charge.

That facility fee is likely most of the $1,200. Check the EOB for a line that says "facility fee" or "outpatient hospital." If Medicare approved the claim, your 20% share of a CT scan is usually $60-120, not $1,200. If the amount looks wrong, I can give you a script to call the hospital billing department.
